CPRS Ally Leaves Congress to Become U.S. Trade Representative

Rep.
Rob Portman
   Rob Portman
Rob Portman, R-Ohio, one of the coalition's most reliable allies in Congress, was confirmed by the Senate on April 29 to be the United States Trade Representative.

Portman was a leading opponent of efforts to force all newly-hired state and local workers to participate in Social Security and CPRS recognized those efforts in 2001 by giving him the Soaring Eagle Award, the coalition's highest honor.

Portman resigned his congressional seat at 12 noon on April 29, following his Senate confirmation.
